How the Health Journal is Graded

The Health Journal worth 25 % of the students grade and is essential if the student wants an A. I want to stress that the student is not graded on what activity they preform but rather how the entries are written in the journal.

Each student is required to record 4 activitys a week. This amounts to roughly 36 entries a quarter which is recommended by the core curriculum provided by the state of Utah. The journal is graded on 4 distinct areas and a student must complete all 4 in order to receive an A. They four areas are as follows:

- Date - The student needs to properly record the date of the activity
- Activity Time - The student needs to accurately record how long their activity period lasted (20 minutes or longer or required)
- Description of Activity - The student needs to describe the activity so that a 3rd party could replicate or reproduce the action.
- Reflection - The student needs to write a 3 to 5 sentence reflection that accurately describes their thoughts and feelings towards the activity.

An example of a proper entry is found below:

Activity Time - 40 Minutes

Activity - Ran on the quarry trail in Little Cottonwood Canyon

Reflection - Today I ran on the quarry trail in LCC and loved it. Although the trail is quite steep I thought that I was cranking up the hill today. I have been running a lot and it feels like my training is starting to pay off. I look forward to my run tomorrow.
